This is an exciting opportunity for those at the beginning of their careers in Countryside Management, helping to manage Dorset’s unique Coast and Countryside with the Greenspace Ranger Service. You will be earning while learning from a wide range of experienced staff in the beautiful Dorset Countryside. You will need to fully engage with the Level 2 Countryside Worker Apprenticeship programme run in conjunction with Sparsholt College and all the other training opportunities on offer. The role is of a practical nature, working outside in all weathers, all year round, with power tools and machinery in which you will be fully trained. The successful candidate will have to show a commitment to the role and good communication and problem solving skills and work as part of a team alongside full time staff, other apprentices and our volunteers. This opportunity is part of our pathway to employment programme for eligible care leavers, young carers, young people with an educational health and care plan or adults with Care Act eligible needs, who are already supported by Dorset Council. This position is offered as a level 2 countryside ranger apprenticeship where you will be provided with a tutor and support. Our apprenticeships are designed to give you the hands-on experience needed, that brings out the best in you, with real responsibilities, real challenges, real projects and scope to grow your career. Undertaking this apprenticeship you will gain a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors. The apprenticeship will run alongside this role, with dedicated time allocated during your working hours to undertake the apprenticeship. Your employment contract will be supplemented with an Apprenticeship Agreement for the duration of the apprenticeship, which will enable you to spend 6 hours per week (or 20% of your time if your working week is less than 30 hours per week) on learning and development activities relating to the apprenticeship. Additional work in your own time may also be required to complete your apprenticeship.
