Behaviour Support Assistant – Tameside Position: Behaviour Support Assistant Location: Secondary School in Tameside Start Date: January 2025 A secondary school in Tameside is searching for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join their pastoral team. This role focuses on helping students manage behavioural challenges, supporting them in developing positive habits, and promoting a calm and constructive learning environment. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will be pivotal in guiding students to develop social skills, self-regulation, and resilience, working closely with teachers, students, and families to foster a supportive school atmosphere. Responsibilities: Student Behavioural Support: Provide one-on-one and group support to students who need help managing their behaviour, identifying triggers, and developing coping strategies to foster self-discipline and respect. Crisis Intervention: Step in to de-escalate challenging situations, promoting positive conflict resolution techniques and helping students find constructive ways to manage their emotions. Collaboration with Pastoral Team: Work closely with the pastoral and SEND teams, contributing to behaviour management plans and communicating regularly on student progress and needs. Parental Engagement: Establish and maintain positive relationships with families, keeping them informed of students’ progress, challenges, and achievements, and providing guidance for supporting positive behaviour at home. Classroom Assistance: Support teachers in maintaining a conducive learning environment by managing low-level disruptions, helping students stay on task, and reinforcing positive behaviour expectations. Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have experience working with young people in an educational or youth support setting, particularly those with social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. Key skills include excellent communication, patience, empathy, and resilience. Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour support strategies is highly beneficial.
