James worked his way to the top. Could you?
James joined my client 7 years ago as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with just a year’s experience.
After several promotions, he’s now one of the most valuable people at this construction consultancy. His journey proves that my client promotes from within – which means this could be your next job and the one after that.
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll work client-side as an Assistant QS in the hospitality, commercial, and residential sectors on everything from major construction projects to school extensions and residential or commercial refurbs.
You’ll sit in a team of 9 in a Cheltenham office and will assist a Senior QS on projects between £10m - £75m. You’ll take ownership of projects between £500k - £1m – giving you plenty of opportunity to work on something juicy and put your stamp on your own projects.
Although there are projects in Gloucestershire, others are further afield in places like Edinburgh, London, and Liverpool. This means you’ll need to be comfortable visiting site (usually once a month) and staying in a hotel.
If you’re interested in things like RICS or MCIOB chartership, my client will guide you on which route to take and will ensure, through on-the-job and formal training, that you get there in two years – around the time you can expect to be promoted to Quantity Surveyor.
Oh, and if you don’t subscribe to the all-work-no-play mentality, you might enjoy the regular socials, including monthly pub lunches (paid for by the boss) and other team days out.
If you’re wondering whether you have the right experience, my client is keen to consider anyone from a new graduate to someone with up to 4 years of experience.
