At Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice, we care for children andyoung adults with life-limiting conditions. We support hundreds of families,both in our hospice and in family homes.
Our support services are wide ranging and bespoke to each family;including overnight care, music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups,home visits and much, much more.
It costs around £ to keep our doors open for families acrossSouth Yorkshire and beyond. Statutory funding makes up 16% of this amount andthe rest is raised through fundraising activity.
Ourservices include overnight stays and community breaks at home or in thehospice. We also support the whole family from diagnosis with ourmulti-disciplinary Family Support team who provide counselling, sibling supportgroups, music therapy and much more. Our care team supports these families inour modern, purpose-built building. All our rooms/bedrooms have a homely feel.We have a sensory room, spa pool, cinema room and six acres ofgardens.
Wesupport families from a large geographical area, including South Yorkshire,North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and parts of North Lincolnshire. Thehospice is easily accessible from Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield andNorth Notts. We have free secure on-site parking for families and staff touse.
Main duties of the job
Towork as part of our Family Support Team providing holistic support from thepoint of referral through to post bereavement. This role will be workingprimarily with the siblings of children with life limiting conditions as wellas those who are bereaved. The roleinvolves visiting siblings aged 7 18, to conduct 1:1 support based on theiremotional wellbeing. This can be in their educational settings, in the familyhome or within the hospice so includes travel within our catchment area. Thefacilitation of group work within the hospice may also be required.
BluebellWood Children's Hospice strongly recommends for direct care roles full COVID& FLU vaccinations. Further vaccination history is required as part of thepre-employment checks.
The requirements:
Tofulfil the role effectively you will be a creative and empathetic person ableto work flexibly and dynamically to meet the holistic needs of children andyoung people. You will have experienceworking with children and young people from a range of backgrounds as well asknowledge and experience of facilitating and delivering pastoral supportinterventions on a 1:1 and group basis.You must also be able to travel to various settings within ourgeographical catchment area.

Job Title: SiblingSupport Worker
Responsible To :Head of Family Support
Job Purpose To work as part of the Family Support Team delivering pastoral care to thefamilies of babies, children and young people diagnosed with life limitingillnesses and those who are bereaved, specifically siblings. Siblings are referred to Sibling SupportServices for low-level 1-1 intervention to support their emotional health andwellbeing when navigating daily life as a young carer or when dealing withanticipatory grief or bereavement.
Main duties and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
To conduct 1:1 support for siblings aged 7 18 in the hospice, community or educational setting as part of a bespokeintervention programme.
Provide support for school staff and familymembers via practical advice, resources and signposting.
To deliver peer support groups for thoseliving with a sibling who has a complex, life limiting illness and those thatare bereaved.
Liaise with professional agencies as part ofthe families support network, advocating for the sibling in multi-agencymeetings where necessary.
To build on and develop current siblingsupport services within Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice.
To support the Sibling Activity Coordinatorat sibling specific trips and events, when required.
Key Tasks
To participate in hospice servicecoordination meetings to assess Family Support referrals and those suitable forsibling support.
To network with other hospices andorganisations to maintain up to date knowledge and skills in supportingchildren and young people who are young carers and/or experiencing anticipatorygrief or bereavement.
To utilise assessment tools to identify theindividual needs of each child/young person and create a bespoke package ofsupport.
To manage own diary and caseload includingimplementing waiting lists where appropriate.
To maintain accurate records andconfidentiality.
Evaluate the service, alongside colleagueswithin Family Support, to provide data and create reports for a wide range ofaudiences.
To implement high levels of safeguardingawareness at all times.
Communication
Establish and maintain effectivecommunication with current and bereaved families, being respectful towards theindividual needs of each family.
Establish and maintain effectivecommunication with relevant individuals and groups to support siblings;including key members of the hospice; volunteers; service users; statutory andvoluntary organisations and educational organisations.
Understand the importance of, and maintain,the need for confidentiality in all individual and hospice matters.
Develop mechanisms to engage with service users enablingsiblings to have a voice, which influences current and future serviceprovision.
Service Development
Work with children and young people and their families toensure their views, experiences and opinions are heard.
To collaborate with the Head of Family Supportand Psychological Therapies Manager to identify gaps in the service and makerecommendations regarding service delivery and development.
