SEND Teaching Assistant
We’re looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team at a primary school in Workington. Are you passionate about supporting children with SEND needs? We are seeking a supportive and enthusiastic individual to work closely with students who have special educational needs, particularly ADHD and ASD. This is a wonderful opportunity to play a key role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every child can thrive.
The role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support students with a range of needs, including ADHD and ASD, helping them to engage with their learning and manage challenging behaviours. You will work closely with the class teacher and other professionals to implement sensory circuits, emotional regulation strategies, and tailor lessons to meet the unique needs of each pupil. You will also support children in their daily activities, helping them to develop essential life skills in a safe and nurturing environment.
The ideal person and skills/education needed
We are looking for someone with a minimum of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant or childcare qualification, and ideally experience in working with children or adults with SEND, particularly those with ADHD and ASD. You should have a patient, empathetic approach to working with children who may display challenging behaviour. A positive, proactive attitude and the ability to adapt to different situations are essential.
Experience in implementing sensory circuits and supporting emotional regulation strategies would be an advantage, but a willingness to learn and develop is equally important.

Hours
Both full-time and part-time roles are available allowing flexibility to suit your schedule. Working hours are from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
