We are currently seeking a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join the Interventional Radiology team at St Mary's Hospital.
St Mary's is a major trauma centre in London, specializing in both general interventional procedures and vascular procedures. The department offers a wide range of learning opportunities, from basic procedures like biopsies and drainages to complex treatments such as Angioplasty, Thrombolysis, Aortic stenting, ureteric stenting, embolization treatment, and Liver Ablation. The role also involves developing skills in the recovery of post-anaesthetics patients and Level 2 care.
As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be a key leader in the team, aligning with our trust values to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care in this innovative environment. The position provides many opportunities to gain valuable managerial skills, offering a solid foundation for career growth. The successful candidate will have a unique chance to make a difference in the service, working collaboratively with radiologists, radiographic staff, and anaesthetists to provide care for complex patients across all imaging modalities, including Angio, CT, Ultrasound, MRI, and Recovery.

You will have the opportunity to build skills and knowledge in surgical scrubbing, circulating, and recovery skills. The role provides exposure to Endovascular work, microwave ablation, MRgFUS fibroids, Prostate embolization, Thrombectomy, embolization of aneurysms, and other highly specialized treatments. With the support of a clinical educator, clinical nurse specialists, and a friendly team environment, you will have the tools and encouragement to thrive in your role.
• Post holder will report directly to Senior Sister / Charge Nurse as direct line manager, and will support Imaging staff nurses and Imaging assistant. Nursing team management will be centralised by Imaging Lead Nurse. Clinical Nurse Specialists and Clinical Nurse Educator as part of senior nursing team will support the teams from an operational and clinical perspective not managerial.
• Key members of the Imaging directorate are the General service Manager, Medical director, Clinical service Manager, Modality leads, Head of Nursing, Consultants and Junior Medical staff, Radiographic team, allied health professionals, administrative and clerical support, and technical staff. Collaborative working with Stroke team, theatre recovery, Intensive care and external agencies is paramount.
