Role: Assistant Planner Apprentice/Trainee

Main Responsibilities
Join us at Colas Rail and embark on an exciting journey to make a tangible impact through our Business Administration Apprenticeship program, working as an Assistant Planner Apprentice/Trainee. Develop your skills, gain invaluable experience, and help us deliver excellence every day.
As an Assistant Planner Apprentice, you will get the opportunity to undertake a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship while working in our business. You will work closely with the wider team, and join a supportive environment with a thriving community of early career professionals and experienced colleagues who will mentor you every step of the way.
Responsibilities
What Will I Be Focused On - Key Responsibilities
Through your mentoring and training you will become competent to:
* Liaise with the Fatigue controller to check against the fatigue index to identify any risks and manage appropriately before the rosters are issued.
* Utilise staff from all Areas/Departments to keep Volunteers/Operators/lodging/ excessive travel to a minimum.
* Ensure as much as possible that dedicated crews are on dedicated machines.
* Manage all Rail Grinding & Milling operational staff (RG&M) annual leave and input onto roster if acceptable and return confirmation of annual leave within seven days either granted or declined.
* Attend weekly planning / rostering meetings with the management team.
* Check the Plans / Rosters in collaboration with the Planners/ Operational Managers prior to distribution to all Rail Grinding & Milling staff.
* Identify and manage anomalies within the planning and rostering stage.
* Participate in daily /weekly/periodic operational planning meetings when required.
* Input rostered hours into the OTMS database.
* Attend interface meetings with the customers as required.
* Liaise with other Regional Planning and Rostering Coordinators to optimise manpower utilisation and minimise the requirement for external resources and operator’s competence.
* Identify any shortcomings in the planning & rosters and inform the Business and Operations Managers.
About You - Person Specification
Maths and English GCSE C/4 or above, or equivalent qualification.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Good relationship building skills.
Commitment to learning and completing your apprenticeship.
Good at taking a problem or task, and breaking it down into smaller elements in order to solve the problem or complete the task.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
