Senior Sister/Charge Nurse – Operations Centre
Fixed-Term contract/ secondment - 37.5 hours / week until 21/09/2025
We are looking for dynamic individuals to join our Operations Centre team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to join our Department and expand on your current skill set, which will include system wide interaction and real time operational problem solving.
The Operations Centre is the hub of the Hospital and are operationally responsible for patient safety and capacity management within the Trust. You will work with the hospital 24/7 team to support clinical demand and support patient safety out of hours. This environment will give you a varied and fast-paced experience where no two shifts will be the same.
The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse role covers 24 hours a day. The role is distinctively different during in hours and out of hours. In hours, includes working with the Divisions to achieve performance indicators and quality standards. Out of hours, you will support the Site Matron for escalation processes, operational and staffing issues, escalating to the on-call teams as required and lead the co-ordination of the Hospital 24/7 Team, prioritising and delegating workload and resources effectively.

Job responsibilities
* Facilitate the Operations Centre daily meetings, co-ordinate the admission of emergency patients, ensuring appropriate placement of patients according to their clinical need and in conjunction with the Trust's divisions, support elective patient placement.
* Monitor the trigger factors associated with, and when necessary implement the Trust's Escalation Protocol in order to minimise bed crisis through effective planning.
* Monitor and facilitate actions to ensure national and local developments for Government targets are met.
* Contribute to the corporate agenda for capacity and target management by participating as a full member of the Site Operations Team.
* Liaise with other Trusts in the area regarding bed states. If necessary, co-ordinate the transfer of patients to and from other hospitals and units.
* Manage and co-ordinate any critical incident which occurs within the Trust.
* Participate in and co-ordinate the Trust's Emergency Response Teams to fire, security alerts, cardiac arrests and other clinical emergencies.
* Play an active role in the action of sectioning patients under the Mental Health Act.
* Allocation of bank and Agency staff and redeployment of nurses within the Trust to match resources to workload.
* Undertake designated responsibilities in the event of a Major Incident.

Qualifications
* Registered with the NMC
* Mentorship Preparation Programme, ENB 998 or equivalent
* Acute Care/ Specialist course e.g. Physical Assessment at Level 3
* ALS or relevant course
* ALERT course
* PILS
Experience
* Extensive post-registration experience, with acute clinical care and management experience
* Able to demonstrate clinical knowledge and skills
* Experience in emergency planning and business continuity
Skills
* Past experience of managing change/Quality Improvement
* Understanding of the wider health-care system, and outside agencies
* Prioritising and problem solving skills, with ability to meet deadlines
* Self-directed and committed to professional development
