Hypha Discovery is a specialist CRO supporting pharmaceutical and agrochemical companies worldwide through the production of metabolites, degradation/manufacturing impurities and environmental fate products, as well as bioactive late-stage derivatives of drugs and agrochemicals in discovery and development. We are experts in the scalable synthesis, purification and identification of drug metabolites, and also possess a wealth of experience in the production, purification and structure elucidation of natural products.
Hypha Discovery has an interesting opportunity for an experienced purification chemist to join our team to work on metabolite synthesis and impurity purification projects with our global pharmaceutical and agrochemical partners.
The role
We are proud of our reputation in the industry and are looking for a purification chemist to join us who shares our ethos for delivering top quality results for their clients. As part of a team, the successful applicant will undertake a variety of interesting projects to deliver purified metabolites and other small molecules, often from complex matrices, to allow structure elucidation and provision of pure material to clients. The role is predominantly laboratory-focussed. Specifically, you will:
1. Develop methods to analyse and purify a variety of small molecules including drug metabolites, API impurities and occasionally bioactive natural products using a range of modern chromatographic techniques and equipment.
2. Interpret chromatographic and spectroscopic data, document and present project work.
3. Mentor and train others in the lab.
4. Be responsible for the maintenance and smooth running of Hypha’s purification equipment.
5. Contribute to the wider Hypha team ensuring the smooth and safe working of the laboratory facility.
6. The position is laboratory-based at our premises in Milton Park, Abingdon, and is full-time on-site.
Who are we looking for?
1. Hypha is looking for a proactive purification chemist with significant experience who is keen to make a difference in the lab. We are seeking someone who has hands-on experience of a variety of purification and analytical techniques using modern instruments such as automated preparative HPLC, to provide materials ranging from sub-to-low-mg amounts, up to gram scales.
2. Other skills that would be useful include NMR data interpretation, experience with mass-directed preparative HPLC, and LC equipment maintenance.
3. The successful applicant will be able to plan ahead, deal with technical issues that may arise and enjoy the challenge of working on more than one project in parallel.
4. Competency in the use of the usual suite of MS Office programs, especially Excel is needed, as are excellent interpersonal, organisation, reporting and communication skills.
