Role Summary
Here at Parker Meggitt, we're looking for a highly skilled Wheel and Brake Proposal Engineer. We need someone able to work within a team that executes the initial design of new Braking Systems Division (BSD) wheel and brake equipment, ensuring that the design meets the requirements defined by the customer, government agencies, and BSD internal standards. This encompasses adherence to performance, cost, and schedule requirements.
As part of this role, you will coordinate with stress, thermal, vibration, and reliability analysis engineers to ensure adequate margins against design requirements are met in a timely manner, compile design and analysis information quickly and succinctly into proposal reports, and confidently deliver presentations for internal and external reviews with subject matter experts, management, and customers.
Ansty Park is a state-of-the-art facility, and this is an opportunity that would suit an individual that is looking to work in a rewarding, fast-paced, and team-focused organisation.
Core Responsibilities
1. Under the guidance of the Proposal Lead, perform clean sheet design work to produce viable wheels and brakes (W&B) based on customer requirements of various definitions.
2. Research existing designs and product data to optimize offerings to customers.
3. Perform calculations and simulations to validate that the equipment will meet the required design requirements. Tools include Excel spreadsheets and custom simulation software.
4. Quickly draw out design in 2D layout software so it can be used by other engineers (thermal, designers, etc.).
5. Rough out design in 3D modelling software (CATIA) and refine design quickly over several iterations; may be able to work with Designer for a more polished design, but basic modelling skills are still required.
6. When required, lead smaller proposal or product improvement efforts.
7. Review customer requirements in light of Parker Meggitt methods of operation and expertise in accordance with government and company standards. Provide feedback in a clear and succinct manner via compliance matrices.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Essential
1. Bachelor's degree in engineering.
2. Aircraft systems knowledge/exposure/experience.
3. Adept at working on designs of varying scope; following standard practices and procedures in design and analysis while also having the flexibility to customise designs based on customer needs.
4. Able to build stable working relationships internally and with proven engineering experience in a team setting.
5. Proven ability to handle stress well in time-constrained, high-demand situations, as well as resilience when designs or analysis need to be changed rapidly and ability to work additional hours as necessary.
6. Detail-oriented but able to make decisions when time is critical.
7. Previous exposure to DFM, GD&T and working knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes.
8. Previous exposure to project management skills including cost/schedule estimating.
Desirable
1. CI training/experience.
