A new opportunity has arisen to join the UK Public Affairs Team as Senior Public Affairs Manager. In this varied role, you will work closely with the Head of UK Public Affairs in managing Zurich's relationships with key external stakeholders. You will provide strategic advice and guidance to senior internal stakeholders around how Zurich interacts with government departments, Parliament and trade bodies. You will be responsible for developing policy, responding to consultations and inquiries and advising the business on policy developments, and how they impact us, in Westminster, Whitehall and the devolved administrations. You will need to build and maintain internal and external relationships and represent Zurich externally on panels, roundtables, events and committees. What will you be doing?
1. Supports the Head of Public Affairs in implementing strategic and tactical objectives as they relate to Zurich's public policy and political agenda.
2. Assures delivery of integrated communications and policy campaigns developed and initiated by the Public Affairs, Media and wider business leadership.
3. Helps develop the organisation's position and public affairs strategy and coordinates with internal & external stakeholders.
4. Drives engagement with internal business units to develop public affairs plans that support commercial objectives.
5. Manages strategic relationships with regulators, government officials and trade associations to ensure a favourable public policy environment for the organisation.
6. Gathers information and analyses key trends and topics and makes recommendations to inform senior leadership on the public policy environment of the organisation.
7. Advises on matters involving public policy being monitored or addressed by Public Affairs to ensure the organisation is cutting edge in this area.
8. Prepares draft papers and briefings on public policy issues to ensure regular reporting and positive external communication. Provides specialist advice to internal stakeholders on public policy and sustainability issues relevant to Zurich.
9. Identifies possible issues/opportunities in the public policy environment and assists in developing/scoping solutions for these.
10. Manages relationships with industry bodies to derive best value from any memberships as well as representing Zurich on relevant committees or working groups.
11. Represents Zurich on panels and at external events to share the company's views and gather insights.
12. Assists in valuation/measurements of public policy engagements to ensure they are in line with the organisation's strategy.
13. Develops planning and controlling of budget for area of responsibility in order to maximize business performance in line with set objectives.
14. Model behaviours that demonstrate commitment to corporate values.
15. Provide input into performance management discussions of team members.
16. Coach and provide technical advice and counsel within and outside operating unit.
17. Provide guidance and support for team members.
18. Take action to manage own personal development and encourage others to do the same.
Minimum Requirements
* The ideal candidate will have around 10 years' experience in a public affairs role or similar either in-house, an agency, or government body.
* You will have detailed knowledge of the UK's political system and public policy environment.
* You will be adept at building relationships, working cross-functionally and across different policy areas.
* You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to distil complex information for internal and external audiences, as well as being a confident and credible spokesperson when representing the business externally.
* You will have some experience of the insurance or financial services sector, or of a highly regulated sector.
* You will be a self-starter, highly organised with a strong attention to detail, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and complexity confidently.
* You will be educated to degree level or above with politics or social sciences as a subject.
* Experience of working and influencing key internal and senior stakeholders across a large organisation/across multiple organisations is desirable.
