We are delighted to be in a position to offer this rare opportunity to join our client's team as a Senior Buyer. Based in Durham, this is a full-time permanent role which is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to make their mark within a growing business.
This is an 'in person' role; hours of work are Monday-Thursday 08:00am - 5:00pm, Friday 08:00am - 4:00pm.
Duties of the Role
The Buyer is responsible for managing the supplier base against cost, quality, and service requirements, ensuring that raw materials are in place to support the manufacturing processes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end buying process, from supplier selection to deciding which materials to hold in stock and to what levels, through to the placement of orders for both stock and one-off purchases, and supplier performance assessment.
1. Analyse raw material usage data and forward demand projection to identify which products to hold in stock and to what levels.
2. Gather and maintain up-to-date information on available sources of supply, together with commercial terms and service options.
3. Work with colleagues in manufacturing to agree on raw material specifications and quality standards.
4. Manage the supplier base against agreed quality standards, price, and service levels.
5. Place purchase orders for stock materials to maintain optimal availability.
6. Place purchase orders for non-stock materials against the requirements of individual projects.
7. Ensure that raw materials are purchased to budget.
8. Allocate stock and purchase orders against individual projects.
9. Liaise with colleagues in the material control centre to support efficient goods receipt and inspection, and the maintenance of accurate stock data on internal systems.
10. Expedite the inbound delivery of raw materials as necessary.
11. Attend the daily sales and operational team meeting to gather information on anticipated material requirements.
12. Support the sales team in the management of customers by providing information on the availability and order lead times of bespoke raw materials.
13. Work with colleagues to develop practical solutions to problematic material availability issues.
14. Manage the company's outbound transport supplier base for optimal cost and service.
15. Adhere to company processes and procedures in the performance of the role.
Essential Experience
1. Previous experience of working within a purchasing/buying role.
2. A strong commitment to achieving high levels of customer satisfaction.
3. Drive to achieve success as part of a wider team.
4. The ability to work in a fast-paced, and sometimes pressured, environment.
5. The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
6. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
