Job Details School Safety Officer School of Architecture, Technology and Engineering Location: Brighton - Moulsecoomb Salary: £34,866 to £39,105 per annum Closing Date: Thursday 10 April 2025 Interview Date: To be confirmed Reference: TE5042-25-021-R The Health & Safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance, and we are seeking to appoint a new Safety Officer working in an environment of experimental research and teaching. In your new role you will be supporting the Head of School Operations in discharging their Health & Safety responsibilities and have the opportunity to shape and influence operational Health & Safety across two diverse academic schools, supporting teaching, learning and research activities. As well as being offered a new challenge, we will ensure your knowledge and experience is widely used, working with a broad range of staff to develop and maintain our Health and Safety management systems and processes. You will undertake a variety of tasks which support university wide and school specific Health & Safety policy and procedures, and their application in a scientific or engineering environment, including: providing day to day guidance and support to line managers in the evaluation of risks, the implementation of risk assessments, undertaking inspections or audits to ensure processes and procedures are being followed. To be successful in this role you should have: Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and procedures e.g., COSHH, local Health & Safety Management Profile (HASMAP) audits. A National Examining Board in Occupational Health & Safety (NEBOSH) Certificate, or equivalent relevant experience. Previous experience in supporting and delivering Health & Safety advice to a range of different audiences. A methodical approach to work and have good attention to detail. The ability to communicate verbally and in writing, producing data and reports for managers, and using Health and Safety management software You should have the confidence to challenge and improve poor practice and aim for a high standard of Safety across all areas of activity.
