The Opportunity As a Business Development Manager working for Suttons Performance Packaging, you will be responsible for expanding sales of manufactured/bespoke packaging solutions across the Southern Midlands/Southeast area. This is very much a sales development/new client acquisition role. With a stretching sales target, you'll be spending much of your time on the road/in the field attending meetings to identify, on-board and develop new customer accounts and further develop some of our existing customer accounts. New business development will require a dual approach: championing our products within the group to gain referrals from colleagues in addition to identifying and targeting your own new prospects. Typical sales cycles range from 3-6 months, requiring you to build and maintain a robust sales pipeline. Key Responsibilities Lead Contact: Serve as the primary contact for new sales enquiries in the region. Product Expertise: Develop a comprehensive understanding of our product line and its applications. Demand Creation: Generate territory growth in line with commercial targets. Networking: Act as the product champion within the group, liaising with distribution sites to foster awareness and secure buy-in, leading to customer referrals. Internal Support: Assist colleagues with training, collaborate with joint sales visits, product design, demonstrations, and customer application support. Consultative Sales: Use a consultative approach to analyse and solve customer problems, presenting tailored solutions. Customer Relationships: Build trusted advisor relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers. Innovation Support: Collaborate with the National Product Manager on new product design and innovation. What you will bring We are looking for a candidate with a genuinely demonstrable and strong track record in solution selling. Ideally, you will have experience in distributor sales/channel distribution or direct packaging sales to end-users. Experience selling a technical product or application-based solution is preferred, though not essential as training is provided. Previous success selling into medical, electronic or broader industrial sectors would be preferred.
