NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE ROYAL NAVY
The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) is seeking an Art Facilitator to lead a creative community fashion project centred around the reinterpretation of historical figureheads through sustainable and artistic practices. This project will culminate in a Catwalk Community Event on 30th May 2025, where community groups will showcase clothing representative of selected figureheads created using recycled or alternative materials. The event aims to highlight community creativity while engaging with local history and sustainability.
We are therefore inviting quotes from Art Facilitators for the following package of work:
* Facilitate workshops for four community groups to create artistic clothing interpretations of historical figureheads, including HMS Asia, HMS Seaflower, HMS Martin, and HMS Queen Charlotte.
* Focus on the use of recycled and repurposed materials, guiding groups on sustainable artistic practices.
* Provide historical and cultural context for the figureheads, encouraging participants to incorporate this knowledge into their designs.
* Ensure the finished artistic outputs are suitable for display after the finale event.
* Prepare groups for participation in the Catwalk Community Event and ensure their creations are ready for presentation.
* Collaborate with the NMRN team to ensure cultural sensitivity and appropriateness for each figurehead.
* Deliver three sessions per group, each lasting approximately three hours, including setup and takedown. Preparation time is included in the facilitation fee.
Timeline of Delivery Sessions
* January 2025: Initial planning and introduction to the project with four community groups.
* February 2025 to April 2025: Delivery of three sessions per group for each of the four figureheads: HMS Asia, HMS Seaflower, HMS Martin, and HMS Queen Charlotte. Sessions will focus on designing, creating, and refining artistic outputs.
* May 2025: Final preparation and showcase at the Catwalk Community Event on 30th May 2025.
Work must begin by January 2025 and culminate in the event by May 2025, with a schedule of workshops and creation sessions spread evenly across the timeline.
Facilitators are asked to include the following in their quotations:
* A project plan fitting the set timeline and the number of sessions.
Key Opportunities
* Work with the NMRN to creatively engage communities with local history and sustainability.
* Shape the artistic output and community engagement of an exciting heritage project.
* Showcase your work at a public-facing event with potential gallery or trail displays.
Knowledge/Experience
* Demonstrable experience in textile arts, community arts, or sustainable design.
* A passion for engaging diverse audiences in creative workshops.
* Strong ability to manage budgets and source materials sustainably.
* Familiarity with historical context and sensitivity in community engagement.
