Principal Piping Engineer
Primary Purpose of Role
Our client is a large UK engineering business working at various sites within the UK. They have opened a new office in Lancashire and are looking to bring in a number of new different disciplined Principal Engineers to support work they have already secured and to secure new work, mainly in the Green Energy, Chemical and Petrochemical industries.
It is the responsibility of the Principal Engineer to support the delivery of defined engineering tasks for minor modifications and projects to the highest standards complying with legal obligations and client statement of requirements. In addition, the role involves supporting the development of proposals for new business opportunities, provision of consultancy services and deputy line management responsibilities of the team.
Major Duties
1. Be conversant/ comply with UK Legislation, Company Rules, procedures, and instructions, contributing to appropriate procedural and system updates.
2. Provide technical expertise for the specification, design, procurement support, installation, and commissioning of the engineering systems.
3. Support Design Assurance for their discipline. Provide on-going technical support to projects and team.
4. Produce, review, and guide the associated documentation relating to the design, installation, and operation of discipline specific systems.
5. Deputise for the Discipline Manager in his / her absence, being the focal point for all discipline specific technical and managerial issues and decisions.
6. Where required, perform the role of 'Lead Engineer' for appropriate projects in line with the scope of work and as-sold budgets.
7. Make decisions involving technical issues, budget considerations, project schedules and safety with a minimum level of supervision.
8. Support Business Winning incl. capability presentations, generation of early execution strategies and associated cost estimates.
9. Delivery on time in full for responsible scope.
10. Support resource management within their associated Discipline. Providing inputs to MPPs, recruitment and also conducting performance reviews for junior staff personnel.
11. Assessing competence within their discipline.
12. Support continuous improvement initiatives.
13. Support roll out of engineering procedures, work instructions, standards, and guidance documents.
14. Carry out discipline audits ensuring full compliance with quality procedures within their discipline.
15. To portray the position of Piping Principal Engineer in a positive and professional manner.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's Degree in relevant engineering discipline or Higher BTEC qualification.
2. Engineering design experience in the delivery of minor modifications and supporting projects during the full life-cycle including Pre-FEEDs, FEEDs and EPC phases within the chemicals, petrochemicals, oil and gas, and power generation industries.
3. CAD & Engineering systems should have a good understanding of 2D Autocad, 3D Modelling systems, Navisworks Manage, Caesar II Stress Analysis package.
4. Experience working within the procurement life-cycle including specification, enquiry & post order support (equipment and sub-contracts).
5. Can demonstrate full appreciation of best practice in design assurance, including competence management, checking/ approval processes, management of technical change, design, and safety reviews.
6. Effective report writing, communication and presentation skills.
7. Ability to support continuous improvement and the generation of project & discipline procedures.
8. Experience of interpreting documents such as safety rules, project execution plans, quality plans, basis-of-design, P&IDs, specifications et al.
9. Understanding of project control processes including assistance with the generation of baseline schedules and managing discipline performance metrics (CPI & SPI). Management of budgets and scope change.
10. Knowledge and application of:
1. SHE systems, ensuring compliance improvement.
2. Quality systems, ensuring compliance improvement.
3. Legislation pertinent to respective discipline systems & standards. ASME B31.3 / B31.1, BSEN13480, Pressure Equipment Directive.
