We’re looking for a dedicated and highly skilled Large Loss Claims Handler to join our dynamic team who can make a real impact in either Salford Quays, Manchester or Haywards Heath, West Sussex. The successful applicant will report to our Head of Large Loss and pro-actively manage a caseload of new and existing catastrophic personal injury claims potentially exceeding £1 million and involving claims of the upmost severity. This will include spinal cord injuries, brain injuries and limb amputation. Your day to day duties will involve working closely with other departmental colleagues, external solicitors and stakeholders with an ultimate goal of settling significant complex and sensitive claims in a timely and professional manner. You will be joining a valuable and busy department in our business. You should be a team player, able to use your own initiative and plan your workload independently whilst collaborating widely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver an outstanding service to the Insurer, Reinsurers and our Customers. What’s involved: Manage a range of catastrophic personal injury claims from the outset to a conclusion Being fully conversant with the relevant sections of the Civil Procedure Rules, Personal Injury Pre action Protocol, Rehabilitation Code, the Road Traffic Act and the implications of being RTA/ART75 insurer to include litigation Liaise closely with the Head of Large Loss to ensure that the reserves fully reflect the anticipated level of damages and costs on each large loss claim Build and maintain relationships with reinsurers, panel solicitors, and other stakeholders to each claim Process payments on claims files in accordance with your authorities and to undertake payment authorisations Ensuring that all your allocated claims files are reserved accurately and promptly and in accordance with our reserving philosophy Maintain your own diary within SLA and KPI’S and undertake regular file reviews to ensure effective and timely settlement of all claims Identify potential fraudulent claims and action as per company guidelines Handling litigated cases in accordance with procedural requirements To provide a point of technical referral to junior employees Assist the delivery of our claims business plan and income targets Deputise workloads during team absence Constantly improve your understanding of technical issues in your specialist area Work closely with other teams and departments to ensure consistency, best practice and compliance Any other reasonable duties as required Experience & knowledge: Extensive motor claims experience at a senior level within financial services / motor insurance Proven track record in handling large loss personal injury claims in excess of £500,000 including catastrophic reinsurance claims in excess of £1,000,000 Excellent understanding of all aspects of motor claims, including personal injury, reinsurance and relevant legislation Knowledge of FCA requirements (including TCF) and the regulatory framework relating to claims Solid working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules, Personal Injury Pre action Protocol, Rehabilitation Code, the Road Traffic Act and the implications of being RTA/ART75 insurer. Good commercial awareness and sound understanding of tactics surrounding the negotiation and litigation of claims Good understanding of wider business objectives and operational requirements Skills & qualifications: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Good time management and organisation skills with the ability to prioritise work Problem solving skills with the ability to adopt a logical approach to resolving problems Strong customer service skills Good data and statistical analysis skills Negotiation and influencing skills Computer literate
