Commercial Manager (PUMA)

The Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Commercial for Projects, Engineering and Automation, you will be responsible for delivering best in class contract controls, coupled with P&L performance across the Projects, which has designated multi-disciplinary services. You will be accountable for the commercial and cost management of a project or programme from inception to close out, ensuring that maximum efficiencies are obtained and full compliance with all B-UK governance procedures is achieved. You will also work closely with Technical, Project Management, and Project Controls teams.
Main Responsibilities
1. Provide visibility on Contract Financial Performance including the preparation of monthly management accounts.
2. Carry out audits and reviews as necessary to assist with the identification and implementation of potential commercial improvements.
3. Ensure suitable controls are in place in support of financial deliverables.
4. Ensure compliance with company policies, processes, and procedures related to the management of commercial aspects.
5. Support operations and project teams in the execution of contracts related to financial and overall performance against agreed budgets and preparation of reports in accordance with Company procedures.
6. Interface with Business Managers, Invoicing, Accounts, Procurement, and Tendering.
7. Collate all relevant start-up information for jobs/phases.
8. Report to senior management on the ongoing financial performance of each job by preparing monthly management accounts.
9. Study and familiarise yourself with relevant Contract Commercial Terms and Conditions and monitor to ensure compliance.
10. Review all invoices for completeness and correctness prior to submission to Client.
11. Assist in preparation of valuations on the client contract terms.
12. Assist with the identification and management of contract variations.
13. Assist Delivery Managers in the preparation of monthly cost/value reports and conduct subsequent analysis, review, and feedback.
14. Set up appropriate cost control/monitoring mechanisms and conduct ongoing audits and reviews.
15. Collate contract budgeting/forecasting information and check the integrity of information provided to ensure dependability.
16. Assist in preparation and resolving claims.
17. Submit annual rates uplifts.
18. Assist in re-negotiation of revised contract terms.
19. Identify areas of commercial weakness and assist in improving the problems.
20. Cross-share ideas between different contracts to ensure lessons learned from both positive and negative influences.
21. Assist in the standardisation of techniques and reporting mechanisms.
22. Assist in preparing/reviewing the commercial element of Business Cases.
23. Interface with Procurement Team.
24. Assist in preparation of Financial element for client reports.
25. Monitor and provide feedback relative to KPI performance and highlight areas where improvement is necessary to optimise financial return.
26. Assist Project Manager in the development of appropriate processes/systems to cater for client specific requirements regarding detailed cost breakdowns.
27. Act as the interface person for Invoicing departments with regard to commercial issues.
28. Conduct reconciliation exercises as required.
29. Provide detailed analysis of completed projects to highlight areas of learning.
30. Check accuracy and approve invoices as required and prepared by Invoice Administrators for return in an expeditious manner.
Experience & Qualifications
1. Proven track record in a similar role.
2. Experience in a fast-paced work environment.
3. Possess a finance degree or be working towards a recognised accounting qualification or have suitable relevant experience working in a similar Commercial or Financial role.
