This is a very different Carer role. We provide respite, palliative and bereavement care for children with life-limiting conditions on a one-to-one basis. Having the time to build relationships with children and their families whilst they are at the hospice and between visits helps to make our roles incredibly fulfilling. Due to the complex needs of the children we care for, you will need to be experienced in caring for children with life-limiting conditions, complex needs or chronic illnesses.
Main duties of the job
Hours are worked on rotating shifts (up to 12.5 hours) including nights, weekends and bank holidays, with enhancements for night, weekend and bank holiday working. Although we are unable to provide fixed shifts, we aim to be as flexible as possible in shift patterns to enable staff to have a good work/life balance.

Job responsibilities
To create a homely and welcoming environment in which families feel nurtured and rested. To provide friendship and care (including physical, emotional, social and spiritual care) to the sick child and their immediate and extended family. To work flexibly alongside the families, supporting them in the manner that they choose.
To develop a supportive relationship as a professional friend to named children and their families, keeping in touch with them between visits to the hospice and maintaining close liaison with other practitioners and agencies involved in their care.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Relevant professional qualification in children's healthcare, social care or play/education.
* Certificate, diploma or degree in: palliative care for children; counselling; or care of the dying.
Experience
* Post qualification practice and experience, preferably working with children and their families.
* Previous experience working with children with life limiting or life threatening conditions and their families.
* Experience of working with children and families facing loss/bereavement.
* Previous experience working on a multi-disciplinary team.
Knowledge and Understanding
* Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children with life limiting conditions and their families.
* Understanding of the philosophy of children's hospices.
* Knowledge and understanding of palliative care for children.
* Knowledge and understanding of loss and bereavement in childhood.
Working with Others
* Good team worker with co-operative and supportive approach to fellow team members.
* Evidence of previous partnership working with children and families with a sensitive and non-judgmental approach.
Personal Qualities
