Job title: Senior Mechanical Engineer Location: Portsmouth Naval Base Salary: £45,000 – £47,500 What you’ll be doing: Key role in integrating a complex warship upgrade, delivering command confidence in the Power & Propulsion systems of Navy Vessels Ensuring engineering integrity is maintained through the embodiment of a complex modification to the vessels Providing on-site support to oversee delivery across multiple ships across class Ensuring change is managed efficiently in configuration and engineering best practice is carried through to subsequent embodiment periods Surveying, managing and resolving design and integration issues that arise through embodiment and commissioning / regeneration Your skills and experiences: An in-depth knowledge in some technical areas with mechanical bias, and sufficient breadth of technical knowledge/experience to make sound engineering decisions in all technical areas, seeking support from specialist engineers where necessary A broad understanding of the design, integration, operation and maintenance of ships equipment including propulsion, diesel generators, propellers, shafts, bearings, intakes/exhausts, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, lub oil systems, compressed air systems, cooling systems, firefighting systems, domestic HVAC and chilled water systems A good understanding of safety within the ship environment, including being able to provide demonstrable experience of taking responsibility for hazard identification and management and safety decisions using sound safety management processes/tools Technical experience in managing specialist suppliers and OEMs Degree level qualification, or equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline preferably with experience in the marine/naval industry and working towards IEng status Benefits: You’ll receive benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance and a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan.
