Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support our educational team in fostering a nurturing and engaging learning environment for children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, particularly in providing care for those with special educational needs, including autism. This role is essential in aiding the lead teacher in delivering quality education and ensuring the well-being of all students.
Duties
1. Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing educational activities that cater to the diverse needs of students, with a focus on SEMH.
2. Provide direct support to children during lessons, helping them understand concepts and complete tasks.
3. Foster a safe and inclusive environment by monitoring student behaviour and addressing any issues that arise.
4. Communicate effectively with children, encouraging their participation and engagement in classroom activities.
5. Support children with special educational needs, including those on the autism spectrum, by implementing tailored strategies to enhance their learning experience.
6. Maintain a clean and organised classroom, ensuring all resources are readily available for use.
7. Collaborate with other staff members to develop individual education plans (IEPs) for students requiring additional support.
Skills
1. Experience in working with children with SEMH needs is essential.
2. Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children and colleagues alike.
3. Knowledge of special education practices, particularly regarding working with children on the autism spectrum.
4. Ability to educate and guide children through various learning activities while maintaining patience and empathy.
5. Organised approach to managing classroom resources and supporting lesson delivery.
6. A proactive attitude towards fostering an inclusive learning environment for all students.
