Job overview
Ward 20 is the ENT, Head and Neck, Maxillofacial Surgery Ward. Staff are specifically trained to care for these patients and have a well-established pathway supported by an ENT Specialist Nurse and a Practice Development Nurse.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide a permanent post on a busy Ear, Nose and Throat, Maxillofacial Surgery Ward. Our ward has 30 beds and undertakes a wide variety of ENT/Maxillofacial Surgical procedures plus tracheostomies and laryngectomies.
2025 will be a particularly exciting year for Ward 20 as we prepare for the transfer of our vascular service. This will mean the opportunity to get involved in the planning and implementation of service developments including enhanced observation beds and a bespoke training plan for staff, in partnership with the leadership team and Vascular Specialist Nurses.

Main duties of the job
* The Ward Manager will focus on the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families, and carers.
* Provide excellent standards of nursing care and expertise, both in delivering direct patient care and in the support of other staff caring for the higher needs and dependency of our patients.
* Provide professional leadership and line management for a team of nursing and support staff. Ensure pathways are optimally managed.
* Manage budget and resources efficiently and effectively.
* Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical setting.
* To supervise, manage and teach other nursing and non-nursing staff, acting as an excellent clinical role model and team leader to ensure quality care is maintained.
* The post holder will have responsibility for the delivery and monitoring of high standards of nursing care to all patients on the ward in accordance with relevant evidence-based professional practice and Trust policies.

* Participates as an active member of the nursing team, accountable for your practice and role modelling the highest standards of care to all members of the team.
* Provides excellent clinical and management supervision to all members of the ward team.
* Communicates proactively with all staff on the clinical condition and treatment plan of patients and ensures accurate nursing records are maintained by all staff.

* RGN with NMC Registration
* Mentorship qualification or equivalent
* Degree in Nursing or working towards
* Evidence of Leadership and Management training/skills
