We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and reliable Farm Worker to join our team and support individuals with additional needs in an inclusive farming environment. This position involves providing assistance with day-to-day farm tasks while ensuring the safety, well-being, and personal development of individuals participating in farm-based activities. The role combines farming duties with the opportunity to make a positive impact on individuals with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities of the Farm Activities Worker:
1. Assist in day-to-day farming tasks, including planting, harvesting, animal care, and general farm maintenance.
2. Support individuals with additional needs in performing farm tasks, ensuring they have the necessary assistance to engage in activities effectively.
3. Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all participants.
4. Offer guidance and encouragement to individuals, helping them develop new skills and build confidence.
5. Monitor individuals' progress, provide constructive feedback, and report on their engagement in farm activities.
6. Work closely with the Farm Manager and Support Coordinator to assess the needs of individuals and tailor tasks accordingly.
7. Help with the setup, organisation, and clean-up of farm activities and events.
8. Ensure the farm complies with health and safety regulations, ensuring the safety of all workers and participants.
9. Participate in team meetings and training sessions to continually improve the experience for both workers and participants.
Qualifications:
1. Previous experience in farming or horticulture is preferred but not required.
2. Experience or willingness to work with individuals with additional needs is essential.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with people of all abilities.
4. Patience, empathy, and a positive, can-do attitude.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
6. Basic knowledge of farm tools, equipment, and safety practices.
7. First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Desired Skills:
1. Understanding of or experience with disability support services and inclusive practices.
2. Ability to adapt tasks to meet the varying needs of individuals.
3. A passion for farming and working outdoors in a supportive, community-focused setting.
4. Experience in mentoring or supporting others in a work or educational environment.
Work Pattern:
The Farm Activities Worker will work opposite shifts to the Farm Manager. 16 hours per week to be worked Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
