Software Development Manager, Amazon Photos
Amazon Photos empowers customers to preserve, share, and relieve their memories using innovative AI-powered experiences on mobile applications, web, desktop, Amazon devices, and as part of Alexa+. We strive to provide customers with the best memories companion for them and their families.
We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a team building foundational services that power core features across our ecosystem. In this role, you'll drive technical strategy and execution for critical backend infrastructure, managing teams that handle everything from content processing to ML model serving at massive scale.
Key job responsibilities
1. Lead and grow a team of software engineers, providing technical leadership and career development while fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence.
2. Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy for large-scale distributed systems that process millions of customer photos daily.
3. Partner with product management, science teams, and other engineering teams to define and execute the technical roadmap.
4. Ensure operational excellence through monitoring, metrics, and continuous improvement of service reliability and performance.
5. Build and scale the team through hiring, mentoring, and developing technical talent at various levels.
6. Drive best practices in software development, including code quality, testing, and deployment processes.
7. Collaborate across organizations to design and implement solutions that integrate with the broader Amazon Photos ecosystem.
8. Own the delivery of critical features and infrastructure improvements that directly impact customer experience.
9. Manage project planning, execution, and resource allocation across multiple concurrent initiatives.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. 7+ years of engineering experience.
2. 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
3. 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience.
4. Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
5. Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
2. Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers.
