Our client is a very successful and expanding business which has grown by 300% in the last 2 years. To support this growth, they need to add a Senior Buyer to their team. It’s envisaged that this person will become Purchasing Manager within 3 years. The commodity Buyer will take accountability and responsibility for all products, commodities, and vendors allocated to them. Working hours are 7:30 am - 5:45 pm Monday to Thursday, or hours worked over Monday to Friday with WFH on the Friday. A daily travel allowance is paid.
Primary duties:
1. End-to-end management of a portfolio of suppliers in a number of commodity categories.
2. Design and Development department on product specifications and management of the tendering process for new product introduction.
3. Lead the sourcing of new products in your specific commodity categories and manage the introduction of new suppliers from sampling through to pricing, contract negotiations, and integration into the supply chain.
4. Lead negotiations with suppliers on a short, medium, and long-term basis with the aim of yielding total acquisition cost savings without compromising on quality.
5. Assist with negotiations on long-term supplier partnership agreements.
6. Identify value improvement opportunities and deliver target cost reductions.
7. Use your solid commercial acumen to negotiate commercial and contractual terms with our suppliers.
8. Create commodity strategies in line with business objectives.
9. Monitor commodity trends and their impact on future pricing.
10. Work closely with suppliers to build a relationship of continuous improvement to improve their performance in terms of quality, delivery, and price competitiveness.
What we're looking for:
1. At least 3 years of experience working within a procurement team/environment.
2. A proactive approach and the ability to work under pressure and on their own initiative is a major requirement.
3. Strong negotiator.
4. Influential and persuasive.
5. Knowledge of Kanban would be advantageous but not essential.
6. Objective, open, honest individual with integrity and self-awareness.
7. Passionate about learning and developing themselves professionally.
8. Takes pride in the work they do and always strives to deliver over expectations.
9. Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational, analytical skills, and commercial acumen.
What you’ll need:
1. Computer literate with proficiency in MS Office e.g. Outlook, Excel is essential.
2. MCIPS qualified or a willingness to work towards this.
3. Excellent organisational skills, such as time and project management and task prioritisation.
4. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to tailor your approach across all levels of seniority, both internally and externally.
6. To have worked in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
7. Knowledge and understanding of contemporary supply chain developments.
8. Full and clean UK driving license.
