Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our pharmacy anti-infectives team. We are looking to welcome an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dynamic pharmacist to support delivering the trust antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) strategy and the management of patients with infection. You will be part of a well-integrated, highly valued team working closely with microbiology, virology, infection control and infectious diseases colleagues delivering specialist care across the organisation.
Job responsibilities
As a specialist anti-infectives pharmacist, reporting to the lead pharmacists anti-infectives; you will be supported and given the opportunity to spend time:
1. Participating in antimicrobial stewardship rounds and multidisciplinary clinical review meetings to advise on infection management.
2. Working with the pharmacy anti-infectives team to support the review and introduction of guidelines for antimicrobial therapies.
3. Developing the response and change in practice to manage the current increase in C.difficile cases including regular combined ward rounds with IP&C.
4. Contributing to the provision of education for all staff to support the appropriate use of antimicrobials.
5. Participating in audit and surveillance of antimicrobial usage and resistance trends to support antimicrobial stewardship activities and ensure cost-effective use of antimicrobials.
6. Leading on world antimicrobial resistance awareness week and actively participating in teaching surrounding antimicrobial stewardship.
The ideal candidate will have experience of managing patients with complex infection, ideally be a prescriber and have a sound knowledge of antimicrobial stewardship and IP&C practice. Experience of public health promotion and teaching is desirable. You will be an experienced clinical pharmacist with a passion for infection and antimicrobial stewardship. Your practice will be patient-focused, compassionate and self-motivated to deliver excellent standards of clinical care. You need to have the ability to communicate well, inspire confidence and work well both independently and as part of a team. All staff are expected to contribute to extended hours (maximum requirement 1 in 5 late nights until 7pm), weekends (1 in 6 weekends (working either Sat or Sun)) and bank holidays. This includes general dispensary duties such as dispensing prescriptions and clinical pharmacy duties. This role needs to include working on a Wednesday and Thursday to complement the working hours of the existing team.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
* Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
* Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 1 competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients.
* Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Sound knowledge of clinical pharmacy services acquired while working within a suitable specialty.
* Experience of audit and evaluative work.
* Teaching and tutoring experience.
* Experience of supervising others.
* Experience of implementing change and change management.
* Development and implementation of guidelines and procedures.
* MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
* Leadership qualification or experience.
* Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 2 or Mastery competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients.
* Sound understanding of healthcare priorities and political agendas.
* Training in medicines information.
