Essential
The Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) for the Senior Naval Architect role shall have the following:
* Degree qualification in Naval Architecture at either Bachelor’s or Masters’ level.
* Professionally recognised as a Chartered Engineer with the Royal Institution of Naval Architects or equivalent, with 5 or more years’ experience working at that level.
* Have 5 or more years’ recent relevant experience of working on warship concept design studies, especially surface combatants;
* Recent experience (last 5 years) of working on naval ship studies and design activity during ship acquisition. Specifically, translating customer ideas and capability requirements, into design solutions and exploiting Defence Standards to shape/define design elements;
* A good working knowledge of Paramarine for ship design and analysis (the main Naval Architectural design tool used at NDP), especially as relevant to sizing studies, stability and strength analysis using parametric models;
* Knowledge of the impacts of scaling of a warship’s design in terms of size (length, beam and draft), stability, operability etc;
* Ability, experience and proof of producing high quality, well-structured and logically written reports within tight timescales that clearly communicate an understanding of the task, the work carried out, conclusions and recommendations made to the sponsor;
* A competence in using 2D/3D CAD packages (Rhino3D and AutoCAD are currently used at NDP);
* Experience of warship design including assessment of operational performance, ship integration and build-ability. Should include operational layout elements, combat and mission systems, and interoperability with aircraft, warships and other offboard systems;
* Recent experience of modelling and developing concept designs to inform warship requirements setting;
* Knowledge of RN operating procedures, BRs and policies, including Maritime System Maturity Levels for Ships (MAP 01-120);
* Good presentation skills;
Should Have
* Current knowledge, understanding and application of Air Defence operations relevant to FADS;
* Recent experience (last 5 years) of working as part of a broader, multi-disciplinary, multi-company team on large projects;
* Knowledge of the workings and organisations of the UK maritime defence industries and warship design and construction;
Desirable Skills
* Experience of working in a multi company environment in a large warship project;
* Understanding of Agile Methodology; as a minimum the ability to work with the customer in an Agile Framework;
* Experience of Concept design management and management of interfaces with other work packages;
* A knowledge of crew modelling tools;
* Industrious: will be output-focussed and with a 'can do' attitude directed to the delivery of objectives in an environment demanding flexibility, adaptability, multi-disciplinary collaboration and multicompany interaction;
* Respectful: will be required to work collaboratively as a team, showing respect for those working on the Project and the qualities and traits that they bring to the team. A respectful attitude shall be projected at all times;

* Focus on Delivering Value: will prioritise delivery of value to the Client. Shall focus on activities which deliver the greatest value to the Client as instructed by the Client and the Client’s contractual documents;
* Ability to Adapt to Change: shall respond quickly to changing ideas, expectations and responsibilities;
