Renaissance College is looking for a Head of Primary Chinese (TLR 2) to start in August 2025. The position will be a full-time two-year contract, renewable by mutual consent.
Renaissance College is a leading educational organization. The Head of Chinese (Primary) supports the development of every student by leading the optimisation of all learning, teaching, and wellbeing practices within the area of Chinese language learning. The HoCP is a pedagogical leader, an exemplary classroom practitioner, and experienced in the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The HoCP embraces learning diversity, modelling, advocating for, and nurturing high expectations for learning amongst students across the school as well as their teaching team. Outside of teaching their own class, they lead and collaborate with a team of educators (teachers and educational assistants).
The Head of Chinese is an integral part of the extended leadership team at Renaissance College, working closely with the Head of Primary (HoP), Vice Principals (VPs), & Head of the Primary Learning Enhancement Team (LET) to live our vision, mission and Bedrock Principles.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
College-wide:
* Promote and use the College-wide vision & mission, goals, strategies, actions, policies, and procedures.
Learning and teaching - curriculum:
* Exemplify leading learning and teaching practices as reflected in children’s development and the Primary Years Programme, nurturing educators within the team to use leading teaching practices;
* Use student data to analyse, evaluate, and develop all learning and teaching practices in consultation with the VPs;
* Communicate and liaise with the VPs, specialist teachers, the year-level Learning Enhancement Team (LET) teachers, and the Learning Information Resource Centre (LIRC) [library] regarding curriculum planning and implementation;
* Using the College-wide strategic plan, establish goals and priorities for the year level;
* Assist with specific departmental tasks or initiatives where appropriate e.g. Years 6-7 transition, Y1 transition, standardised assessments, and education outside the classroom (field trip) administration.
Staff:
* Nurture the development of members of the Chinese department using mentoring or coaching methods;
* Induct new staff into the team;
* Identify staffing needs within teams in consultation with the HoP and VPs;
* Identify professional development needs within teams in consultation with the HoP and VPs
* Liaise with parents as needed;
* Recommend the need for a teacher Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) to the HoP.
Leadership, Management, and Administration:
* Lead Primary Chinese team meetings and co-lead college-wide departmental meetings;
* Represent both the Chinese teaching team and Primary Leadership Team 13 (PLT 13);
* Lead professional development sessions within the department;
* Actively participate in PLT 13 meetings;
* Manage the department budget and resources;
* Coordinate events and field trips in accordance with College policies and procedures;
* Coordinate the publication of departmental information for parents;
* Manage cover work for colleagues on extended leave;
* Oversee and facilitate the class placement process;
* Arrange and lead Parent University sessions as needed;
* Delegate leadership responsibility within the team as needed;
* Identify CapEx and Technology budget items;
* Liaise with colleagues across the College including finance, communication and technology;
* Initiate meetings with cross-college leaders to facilitate curriculum articulation and developmental learning progression.
Students:
* Develop an awareness of students’ academic and wellbeing needs across the Primary school;
* Liaise and communicate with VPs/Child Protection Officers (CPOs) on child safeguarding and protection issues;
* Liaise with the Primary LET Leader to celebrate and act on learning diversity for all students;
* Support the writing and completion of developmental reports;
The Head of Chinese (Primary) is expected to carry out additional duties that may be reasonably and occasionally assigned by the HoP.
The Head of Chinese (Primary) is expected to have the following:

* The ability to lead adult meetings, workshops, and presentations;
* Analytical and problem-solving skills.
In-depth knowledge of:
* Effective learning and teaching practices to support students and educators in an environment that caters to learning diversity;
* Planning, collaboration, and team-building processes;
* Research-based assessment practices for, as, and of learning;
* The Primary Years Programme (PYP).
Experience
* Previous leadership experience preferred;
* Teaching the IB-PYP required;
* Teaching both lower (early years) and upper primary students preferred;
* As a primary practitioner.
Requirement
Minimum Typical Education
* Bachelor's Degree in Education, or
* Bachelor's Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
