Senior Science Technician Contract Type: Permanent role, 37 hours per week 5 days (for INSET and holiday) Grade/Spine: BG-H SP19 Salary: £25,517 per annum including Fringe Allowance We are seeking to appoint an excellent Senior Science Technician who is enthusiastic and organised to join a friendly and strong department. The successful candidate will be assisting teaching staff in the delivery of science lessons across KS3 and KS4 by being responsible for providing general and practical support whilst leading a team of two technicians. You should have excellent organisation skills, attention to detail and a good understanding of health and safety practices when working within a science lab. A scientific background would be extremely helpful, but full training will be given. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have full responsibility for organising and maintaining the school’s science laboratories, physics equipment, biology materials and chemical stocks and associated chemistry equipment. This will include preparing materials, chemicals and equipment for use during practical sessions within science. You will also be involved in providing support to students and staff in respect of any relevant training and operating equipment. You will be responsible for implementing risk assessments in the practical areas of the science department, and mentor/support staff with health and safety. You will need to be flexible and have previous knowledge of materials preparation, experiment preparation and equipment maintenance along with strict adherence to health and safety; It is essential that you can demonstrate good organisational skills and proactive thinking and planning. Scientific or technical background would be advantageous, although is not essential. Knowledge of CLEAPPS, COSHH and keeping of microbiological stock would also be an advantage. Level 3 qualifications in Science would be advantageous, but not essential.
