JOB ROLE
To support my daughter who has autism and learning disabilities and can display challenging behaviour which increases when anxious, hungry, tired, and in pain. Responsibilities include prompting with personal care. She loves going out into the community, so we would want a driver with business insurance to take her on days out to her favourite places, i.e., parks, playgrounds, trampolining, supermarkets, meals out, shopping/retail parks, etc. She has a lot of sensory needs and enjoys messy play activities such as playing with sand, playdough, painting, scooting, biking, drawing, and using bath bombs. These activities help keep her regulated and calm. She is used to public transport (bus and train), and we would like this to continue with the successful applicant. The hours would be Saturday or Sunday (4 hours during term time) and a further 15 hours (19 in total) to suit both the employer and applicant during the school holidays. The weekly hours can be used flexibly, i.e., 8 per fortnight. Preferably alternate days, probably no more than 4-5 hours a day, as holidays can be quite stressful for her if not in a consistent routine. For example, Mon, Wed, Fri 10-3, followed by a weekend for example Sat 10-2, etc., with flexibility. The successful applicant would help support me with life skills such as teaching Sophie about road safety, stranger danger, personal care, preparing basic snacks and meals, and learning about money. Sophie is 12 and already quite independent but needs a lot of supervision to keep her safe. We need a person who can remain calm in difficult situations, is patient, and understands how autism can impact a person. Confidentiality is of utmost importance.
