Job Description
The Management Accountant Lead will:
1. Lead on the production and maintenance of the management accounts and financial reports, working closely with the wider finance team.
2. Maintain financial control and oversight for risks, recharges, accruals/prepayments, planned efficiencies/benefits/cost savings/Incremental cost of change.
3. Provide robust financial insights and analysis to Head of Financial Management and the Finance Business Partners, to inform meaningful, strategic conversations with stakeholders.
4. Monitor and assure consistent and accurate accountancy processes across the team, with accounting standards and departmental accounting policies.
5. Lead on assurance and integrity of any financial data provided to support commissions (internal to CDIO and/or cross departmental).
6. Drive cultural change to improve CDIO Finance leadership by role-modelling behaviours that inspire, motivate, empower, support, celebrate successes and tackle inappropriate behaviour / poor performance. Management of team members and/or oversight of others work and developing leadership skills within and across teams.
7. Influence and drive cultural change to improve financial information, innovation, processes, systems, assurance, and financial capability.
8. Lead and develop a team of Management Accountants.
Person Specification
Management Accountant Leads deliver robust, clear, and timely financial management information and insight, including monthly management accounts, forecasts, dashboards, and analysis of options to inform decision making. They ensure the integrity and accuracy of data, that financial risks, issues, and opportunities are captured and monitored and that a clear narrative is provided on the financial position which reflects a sound understanding of their assigned business area and its objectives.
They maintain collaborative customer-focused relationships and networks across the wider finance community, working seamlessly with Finance Business Partners to ensure the business is supported in a timely, constructive, and consistent way.
They bring different sets of data together and draw out the story from the consolidated data. Their role involves monitoring both large and complex budgets and they will also be more involved in reporting to senior managers and delivering both analysis and effective challenge to assumptions.
They will manage teams of Management Accountants and will be providing leadership, strategic direction and ensuring effective service delivery. Their role involves dealing with greater complexity and ambiguity, for example, in navigating a path to provide insightful management reporting from disparate datasets and uncertainties in the operating environment. They will draw out the story from the data, explaining what the numbers are telling them to highlight whether there is cause for concern or a need to act.
Essential Criteria
1. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders.
2. Strong leadership and line management skills, with the ability to develop and motivate people both from own line management chain and across the wider team.
3. Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into meaningful insight to support decision making.
4. Proven experience (at least 3 years) within a similar role and experience of working in a large and complex organisation.
5. Confident communicator, comfortable with robustly challenging senior business leaders and decision-makers.
6. Ability to work in a culture of change, to think strategically and work comfortably with risk.
7. Full or nearing completion of CCAB qualification (incl. CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, ACA or equivalent) or willing to study towards being fully qualified within 2 years of taking up the role.
Desirable Criteria
1. CCAB fully qualified accountant (includes CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, ACA or equivalent).
2. Previous experience of working within or supporting an IT organisation from a finance perspective.
3. Previous experience of working within a public sector or not-for-profit organisation's finance team.
Qualifications
Full or nearing completion of CCAB qualification (incl. CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, ACA or equivalent) or willing to study towards being fully qualified within 2 years of taking up the role.
