Job summary
The London Borough of Brent is situated in North-West London, with the famous Wembley Stadium at its centre.
We have a vacancy based across the borough to cover both Sudbury Primary Care Centre and Willesden Centre for Health and Care.
The post is Full time (37.5 hours) perm and also as fixed term.
We have a diverse and inclusive team of Community Nursery Nurses, Community Staff Nurses, and Health Visitors who work collaboratively with the Trust Safeguarding team and all our families to support the Healthy Child Programme mandated checks. The aim of our Health Visiting multidisciplinary team is to keep our children and their families safe.
The post holder will provide a high standard of information and support to breastfeeding mothers, partners, and their babies before and after the birth in a range of settings (home, children's centres, and clinics etc.)
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure timely contact with breastfeeding mothers in order to offer breastfeeding information and support.
2. Ensure breastfeeding mothers are provided with contact details of local breastfeeding support.
3. Actively support the planning of breastfeeding support sessions and groups.
4. Work within recognised best practice standards for breastfeeding as recommended by UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative and NICE Guidance.
5. Ensure appropriate referral for clinical support to a midwife, breastfeeding coordinator, health visitor, or GP.
6. Meet with the Infant Nutrition Coordinator on a regular basis for supervision, every 6 weeks, and to report progress.
7. Deal in a courteous and sensitive manner with women, relatives, and others with whom they come into contact.
8. Communicate effectively with women and others, taking into account clinical conditions and differing levels of ability.
9. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
10. Establish working relationships with all groups of staff ensuring maintenance of good communication.

* GCSE or equivalent in English and Mathematics.
* Evidence of health-related qualification or NVQ study to level 3 or equivalent qualifications.
Experience

* Experience in developing and maintaining IT-based data collection and reporting systems.
Desirable
* Experience of working as a Breastfeeding Supporter.
