Clarke Chapman Facilities Management are responsible for several long-term maintenance and operation contracts for our client Network Rail.

Job Overview
As a valued member of our team, your primary duties will be to carry out preventive and reactive maintenance on the Rail Delivery Fleet (RDF) at our maintenance depot. As part of your duties, you may also be required to attend a Local Distribution Centre (LDC) or on the rail infrastructure to undertake fault finding/repairs. In addition, and as part of our contractual obligations you will also be required to participate (on a shared rota basis) in providing a help desk service or separately undertake “standby” duties. The nature of our work may on occasion require working unsociable hours, weekends and/or bank holidays. The role will involve working outdoors in all types of climatic conditions.

Based at our Scunthorpe depot and Network Rail infrastructure sites as required.
Outline of Job
1. To undertake scheduled maintenance activities effectively and efficiently, to include reactive maintenance and remedial works as required, to ensure the availability of the Rail Delivery Fleet to meet operational demands. All operational and maintenance activities shall be carried out in accordance with the vehicle maintenance instructions (VMI) and established good engineering practice.
2. Have knowledge and experience and be competent at working on and maintaining - diesel engines & associated equipment, hydraulic, electrical, PLC and electro/mechanical systems.
3. Have experience of electric, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical system fault diagnosis. All rectification work shall be undertaken with a view to preventing a recurrence of the problem.
4. Ensure that all faults, repair, and other engineering data is fed back for record purposes clearly and concisely, along with the general condition of the equipment/plant, also ensure that time sheets, holiday requests, completed work orders, reports, spares requisitions etc are passed for processing in accordance with the local rules.
5. You will be required to gain a comprehensive working knowledge of the relevant equipment and control system operation, their interaction, as and when required imparting such skills and knowledge to the team for its benefit and those of the company.
6. On occasion you will be required to work at various locations within the UK, e.g., to attend a Local Distribution Centre (LDC) or on the rail infrastructure to undertake fault finding/repairs.
7. There will be a requirement to participate in a “standby” rota (covering the weekend period) or separately to provide telephone assistance (help desk) from Saturday to Friday. Both the “standby” and help desk service are undertaken by all maintenance personnel to meet the requirement of our client.
8. Assist with the integration of new/replacement/stand-in personnel into the team and maintain a positive interest in the welfare of the other team members.
9. Be prepared to carry out any work within capabilities.
Education Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Minimum NVQ Level 3 or similar qualifications or experience in a relevant discipline.
* Engineering/maintenance background.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable/Beneficial
* Apprentice trained.
* Experience of working within the UK Rail Industry and/or track plant and systems.
* Personal Track Safety PTS Holder (this will be organised by the Company).
Specific in-house and external training and assessment will be provided to the individual, to ensure they meet the competency requirements to work on the equipment and associated tasks.
Key Accountabilities:
* Ensure that the operation/maintenance and repair procedures are strictly adhered to and are carried out in a competent manner and to the required standards.
* Ensure equipment is operated/maintained and repaired in an effective, efficient, and timely manner.
* Provide communication either verbally or in writing which fully details the information that is required for the company and client records.
The company places a high priority and emphasis on the Health, Safety and welfare of its employees and its operations. You will be required to ensure that all Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments, Permit to Work etc are correctly followed, ensuring that all work is carried out to the correct working procedures and that safety rules are adhered to rigidly.
Relationships
Will work as a member of a team of multi-disciplined Service Engineers, liaising and collaborating with other personnel as required. They will work with the Maintenance Supervisor and other members of the company’s organisation and will also be expected to liaise in a professional manner with members of the Clients operational staff.
Hours of work
Standard working week: 47.5 hours worked over 5 days (Monday – Friday) plus any additional hours as required.

25 days annual plus 8 bank/public holidays
Safety Implications
Be aware of Health & Safety legislation and Railway Group Standards ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures and safe systems of work applicable to working in a railway environment. Actively participate in promoting safe working practices. The duties will require a high degree of manual dexterity and the ability to work under pressure.
Will have undergone and passed a Railway Group Standards, medical and drugs and alcohol tests as well as be willing to participate in any future random tests.
Will have completed and successfully achieved PTS.
Transport
A full driving licence will be a necessary requirement of the role. A vehicle will be provided only when transport is required to fulfil your contractual duties (no personal use/commuting to normal place of work).
