Job Description
Mission and Role Details: NRL are looking for an H&S Process Safety Specialist. The ideal candidate will support in control of safety systems for our client in advanced manufacturing, ensuring they always run safely and efficiently while maintaining an effective system.
Outline and Responsibilities: Reporting to the EHS Senior Manager, as the EHS Process Safety Specialist, you will work closely with production and other operational disciplines to ensure the battery plant operates safely and meets the requirements of an upper tier COMAH site. You will support the design, installation, and commissioning of new production machinery, including monitoring development and troubleshooting.
Ensuring that potential safety issues related to the site operator, the environment, the process, and the product are considered, you will partake in and lead hazard studies – HAZOPS, SIL / LOPA, HAZIDS as required. You will coordinate the preparation of major hazard risk assessments and define the Chemical and Operational (Fire and Explosion Prevention).
Bases of Safety and Processes: Conduct Process Hazard Assessments (PHA) of new and existing processes. Carry out pressure relief and general process engineering calculations. Support and participate as a member of the EHS team in general EHS activities and contribute to the development of the site's COMAH report submission and Reg10's.
Experience & Qualifications Required:
1. Chemical Engineering degree or similar technical field.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
4. Able to multitask and be self-driven.
5. Positive outlook and clear focus.
6. Technically proficient in all areas of Process Safety and Loss of Prevention e.g., HAZOP, PHA, etc.
7. Experience of relevant H&S and Environmental Legislation.
8. Demonstrate knowledge of COMAH, DSEAR, ATEX, and other Health & Safety legislations.
9. Minimum of 5 years relevant chemical experience at upper tier COMAH establishments.
10. Experienced & effective problem solver, leading problem-solving teams both cross-functional and within Production, Engineering, and Technical Functions providing analytical solutions & effective actions.
11. Sound knowledge of manufacturing improvement strategies and approaches e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA, etc.
