A position exists for a Research Associate in the Department of Engineering to work on Automated Performance and Productivity Measurement in Construction. The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK. The appointee will design and develop new data integration algorithms and machine learning techniques to integrate construction data for performance and productivity measurement. Leveraging real construction data, the successful candidate will design and develop an on-line dashboard and user interface to present construction data for effective decision-making. The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: - Hold a PhD in construction engineering, civil engineering, information engineering or any other relevant field. - Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. - Strong programming skills for data-to-dashboard applications using computer vision, machine learning, and AI algorithms. - Experience in automated collection of unstructured and structured data in different formats, and translating these into a standard format for analysis, interpretation, and dashboard development. - Experience of working with industry partners. - Excellent English language proficiency. - Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills including the ability to write concise and well-presented text in academic papers and/or industry reports. - Evidence of working in multidisciplinary teams and able to liaise and work with a full range of the Laing O'Rourke Centre stakeholders including academics, industry and the media. - Knowledge of the UK and/or international construction sector is essential. - Able to manage own workload. - Strong time management skills, strong work ethic and a positive attitude are essential. Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. The funds for this post are available for two years in the first instance. The Laing O'Rourke Centre supports flexible work arrangements. Core working time at the Centre based in the West Cambridge Civil Engineering offices to build team collaboration is expected. Salary range: Research Associate £36,924 to £45,163 Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
