We are looking for chef/cook to join our team at Thomas Edward Mitton House, Milton Keynes on a permanent basis. We can offer flexible working patterns for this post, however, the post holder will be expected to work some weekends. Thomas Edward Mitton (TEM) House is a specialist residential centre that provides continuing rehabilitation and specialist care and support for people with an acquired brain injury (ABI). Developed and run by the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust, the service uses a neurobehavioral approach, to people with cognitive, physical and emotional/behavioural problems following an acquired brain injury. MAIN PURPOSE: • To plan and provide cooked nutritious meals for service users on a daily basis ensuring food is fresh and purchased within budget. • To ensure health, safety, environment and hygiene standards are achieved and maintained. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • To plan and prepare a varied choice of menus, ensuring properly balanced and nutritious meals are provided, taking into account any special dietary requirements and service user preferences • To follow any dietary or food preparation guidelines as provided in service user care plans and guidance by health care professionals • To ensure that the storage, preparation and cooking of all food is carried out using the highest standards of hygiene • To be responsible for catering and cleaning budgetary control and purchasing, alongside Service Manager • To oversee all stock ordered is of high quality and consistent with planned menus that reflect choice and preference, maintaining stock control • Ensure high standards of food management within current Food Hygiene regulations and policies and procedures • To be responsible for the storage and use of cleaning items in accordance with COSHH • Direct and supervise all kitchen staff and ensure they are aware of their responsibilities with regards to Food Hygiene and preparation and Health and Safety requirements • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with the service users, contributing to the creation of a homely and pleasant living environment for each service user • To work on a rota which may include weekend and bank holiday working ABOUT YOU: You will hold a Food Hygiene Certificate Experience of catering within a commercial or care setting Awareness/knowledge of Health and Safety relevant to catering & COSHH Requirements Experience of managing a catering budget Responsive to individuals dietary and cultural needs Ability to provide supervision to kitchen assistant staff Benefits include: • A competitive rate of up to Up to £15 per hour on Weekdays and £16 per hour at Weekends • 33 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays (pro rata) • Excellent training and support • Group life assurance / Company Pension • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) • Eye voucher scheme • Free parking • Nationwide employee staff discounts incl. eating out and shopping - Blue Light Card: provides those in the NHS, emergency services, social care sector and armed forces with discounts online and in-store
