About the Role:
The Submarine Structures Consultant will play a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity of submarines, assessing risks, and reviewing technical designs. As a key member of our team, you will work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure compliance with rigorous safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Safety Assurance:
o Ensure all in-service submarines remain safe to operate in all scenarios, including at sea, alongside, and during docking/undocking.
o Manage safety risks within the Structural Strength domain, ensuring risks are tolerable and ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable) in line with relevant safety policies.
* Design Authority Responsibilities (DAR):
o Set requirements for surveys, repairs, ballast adjustments, and design changes related to structural integrity during submarine maintenance periods.
o Develop and approve design modifications that enhance safety or operational capability.
o Review design changes for impacts on structural strength.
* Operational Support:
o Assess operational defects (OPDEFs) for their impact on stability, manoeuvring, and control. Provide guidance and issue DAR instructions to mitigate risks.
o Offer expert advice on submarine structures for infrastructure projects, platform design, trials, and other enterprise projects.
