About the Role We are looking for a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to join our team and ensure the smooth running of our school premises. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities Site Maintenance & Security Ensure the school premises, grounds, and facilities are well-maintained, safe, and secure. Open and close the school daily, including alarm setting and checking security systems. Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance tasks (e.g., plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and painting). Conduct routine site inspections and report any major maintenance issues to management. Ensure the site is clean and presentable, liaising with cleaning staff as necessary. Monitor and oversee external contractors working on-site. Health & Safety Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, conducting regular checks on fire alarms, emergency lighting, and other safety equipment. Carry out risk assessments and implement necessary safety measures. Maintain records of maintenance, safety checks, and compliance reports. Respond promptly to any emergencies or maintenance requests. General Duties Assist with setting up classrooms, halls, and other spaces for events, assemblies, and exams. Manage stock levels of cleaning and maintenance supplies, ordering replacements when necessary. Support staff with moving furniture or heavy items when required. Monitor heating, lighting, and ventilation systems to ensure efficient operation. Maintain outdoor spaces, including playgrounds, pathways, and car parks. Person Specification Essential: Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities management, or maintenance role. Strong DIY skills, including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical work. A good understanding of health and safety regulations. Ability to work independently and take initiative in problem-solving. Reliable, punctual, and proactive with excellent attention to detail. Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with staff, contractors, and external agencies. A willingness to undergo relevant training, including safeguarding and first aid. Desirable: Experience working in a school or educational environment. Knowledge of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
