About the Role
As a Senior Scientist with the Product Development team, you will take a lead role in all aspects of product development, including planning and undertaking laboratory and pilot plant work, producing prototypes and understanding and solving technical problems relating to the coatings and plastics segment.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for demonstrating a safe working environment and adhere to environmentally safe work practices.
2. Maintain Laboratory in accordance with site safety rules
3. Maintain pilot plant equipment / Instruments in accordance with site safety rules
4. Be competent in researching IP space during concept development stage of projects
5. Responsible for mentoring junior scientists
6. Responsible for producing lab made and pilot made prototypes
7. Responsible for solving technical problems related to the coatings & plastics segment
8. Plan with manager the next steps for progressing a project
9. Plan and perform laboratory and pilot plant work independently with guidance from Manager
10. Perform in process testing on prototypes
11. Be a resource on project team and plant trials (this will require some travel within the UK & abroad)
12. Record and analyse data and present in both written and oral form to seniors. Discuss implications of findings on project progress.
13. Identify and share continuous improvement ideas that may enhance process, product development, safety and cost reduction.
14. Perform COSHH and risk assessments, participate in building safety initiatives.
About You
Successful candidates will have the following qualifications and experience:
15. Honours degree in Chemistry or related subject. Preferred Master’s or in chemistry.
16. Experience of Product Development in an industrial manufacturing environment involving inorganic chemistry, especially that for silica or alumina
17. Preferred experience in the chemistry and physics of particles, or in the coatings industry
18. Good commercial awareness of the chemical manufacturing industry
19. A good knowledge of health and safety procedures generally in relation to internal Safety, Health, and the Environment (SHE) and Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) protocols
20. Ability to introduce new concepts and methods to work processes
21. Competent in Six Sigma methodologies (Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, etc.)
22. The ability to work equally well as part of a team or independently, and a demonstrated ability to lead a team to the completion of a task
23. Competent in documenting all potential Intellectual Property (IP); submitting invention disclosures; and being part of a team working with attorneys on patent applications
24. Competent in writing reports, performing presentations, and verbal communication skills
