Job Title: Homeless Relief Team Leader
Location of work: Town Hall with the occasional Hybrid working by arrangement
Salary: £39,981 - £46,902
Basis: Permanent full-time basis
About the Role
In this exciting, fast-paced, and varied role, you will be working as part of a friendly and supportive team to help our residents prevent or relieve homelessness. You will lead and supervise the Homeless Prevention & Relief Officers and utilise your detailed housing knowledge, motivation, and life experiences to provide detailed and comprehensive housing options to a range of diverse clients. You will be responsible for ensuring the team complies with its statutory duties and ensure that they are delivered in a clear and transparent way in line with best practice and the Housing legislative framework.
You will also manage a reduced caseload and undertake Housing Assessments, produce and update tailored Personal Housing Plans to support households to remain in their home or support them into alternative accommodation for at least six months. You will undertake statutory Section 202 reviews in line with homeless legislation. You will be responsible for managing the process of allocations into temporary accommodation, private, and Registered Provider tenancies ensuring that the council discharges its housing duties in accordance with legislation. You will also be involved in project management including implementing any new changes in housing legislation such as the Renters Reform Bill.
About the Person
You must have previous management experience in the housing sector and have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be a good team player, and be able to work on your own initiative. A commitment to providing high standards of customer service, with the skill and discipline to deliver this across a varied workload and to work to deadlines, are essential. You will also have experience of liaising with a variety of statutory & non-statutory agencies and have the ability to challenge when required.
We are looking for a positive, supportive, flexible, and innovative individual that can engage well with members of the public that are often going through a difficult time and sometimes have vulnerabilities.
You will have an excellent knowledge of Parts VI & VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homeless Reduction Act. You will provide comprehensive housing advice to households with a range of tenures. You will interview clients, assess their circumstances, and decide what statutory duties are owed. You will work collaboratively with other partners including housing associations, police, social services, substance treatment agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.
