We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Swindon to assist with the appointment of an Approved Mental Health Professional, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Rate of Pay: £28.96 - £37.75 per Hour Summary: Join Swindon's Daytime AMHP Service, a small and supportive team committed to delivering high-quality mental health services. Based at Sandalwood Court, co-located with Mental Health NHS Trust partners, you will play a vital role in assessing, managing, and supporting individuals under the Mental Health Act. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, promoting the rights and independence of service users while providing expert consultation and collaborative care. Responsibilities: Deliver the communal fire door inspection programme across the Housing property portfolio. Conduct statutory assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and related legislation. Respond promptly to referrals, including Section 136 and Section 135(1) work in designated places of safety. Collaborate with external agencies (e.g., NHS, Police, Social Care, and voluntary sectors) to provide coordinated support. Provide expert consultation to case-holding social workers regarding mental health legislation, capacity assessments, and safeguarding adults. Use critical judgment to assess complex and high-risk situations, offering least restrictive options where appropriate. Ensure accurate and detailed record-keeping, reporting, and the preparation of written assessments. Qualifications: Degree in Social Work (or equivalent relevant qualification). Registered with Social Work England. Postgraduate qualification as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP). Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to learning. Essential: Significant post-qualification experience in a mental health environment. Expert knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007), the Mental Capacity Act 2005, The Care Act 2014, and relevant case law. Ability to assess and manage complex risks while ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed. Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with a commitment to person-centered, anti-discriminatory practice. Experience of multi-disciplinary and partnership working, including with health, police, and social care agencies. High proficiency in IT systems, including Microsoft applications and specialist databases. Please note: You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
