A one year attachment to the department of Dermatology, with the specific aim of training in Dermatological surgery with particular emphasis on Mohs micrographic surgery and surgical reconstruction.
Training in nail apparatus surgery, scar revision and the use of non-ablative lasers will be given.
Applications are invited for two one-year posts, suitable for dermatologists seeking specialist training in Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatological surgery and cutaneous oncology. The posts are available from August 2025 for 12 months. Candidates may be qualified dermatologists, dermatology trainees within 6 months of CCT or immediately post-CCT. This programme will provide training and experience in a wide range of dermatological surgery topics with an emphasis on the management of skin cancer. On completion of the programme it is anticipated that the trainee will have skills appropriate to a dermatologist with a special interest in cutaneous surgery and cutaneous oncology, including Mohs micrographic surgery, surgical reconstruction for skin cancer, scar revision and the dermatological use of lasers.

The Mohs Surgical Unit at Newcastle RVI is one of the largest in the country, and sees a surgical throughput of more than 1500 Mohs cases a year; comprising treatment of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma in situ, stage Ia melanoma and other rare cutaneous cancers. The advertised post is full time, with a focus on cutaneous oncology and Dermatological surgery. There is no dermatology on call commitment and no general dermatology clinics. The postis endorsed by British Society for Dermatological Surgery (BSDS).The successful candidate will have a demonstrable commitment towards, and understanding of the utility of Mohs surgery for the treatment of patients with skin cancer. They will be expected to fulfil the Mohs workplace based performance assessments as mandated by the BSDS, to join the teaching rota, and to show involvement with departmental audit, quality improvement activity, and departmental research. They must be willing to be flexible with respect to clinical commitments.
