Job overview
We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a permanent Band 8a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist in the Traumatic Stress Service.
The Traumatic Stress Service is a tertiary-level specialist service which provides psychological assessment and evidence-based treatment to people with PTSD and associated conditions.
You will join a team of 1 Consultant Clinical Psychologist, 4 Clinical Psychologists, 1 Counselling Psychologist, Trainee Clinical Psychologists, and 2 Assistant Psychologists.
The service has a strong commitment to research and evidence-based practice, with regular opportunities for CPD and specialist supervision.
Main duties of the job
* To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team.
* To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s mental health problems.
* To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals.
* To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options.
* To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of clients.
* To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals.
* To undertake risk assessment and risk management for relevant individual clients.
* To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner concerning the assessment, formulation, and treatment plans of clients.
Person specification
Training and Qualifications
* Doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology.
* Post-doctoral training in CBT.
* EMDR Training Level 1-4 and accreditation.
* BABCP Accreditation as practitioner and/or supervisor.
Experience
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups.
* Experience in the assessment of clients presenting with both acute and chronic/complex PTSD.
* Experience of using trauma-focused CBT to treat clients with PTSD / complex PTSD.
Knowledge & Skills
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management.
* Well-developed skills in communication.
* Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
* Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies.
