About the role
The role of a Financial Accountant is pivotal in ensuring the financial integrity and transparency of Dunelm. You will be tasked with the dual responsibilities of technical accounting compliance and balance sheet substantiation, to ensure financial accuracy and reliability. This role involves deep dives into financial statements, identifying any discrepancies or irregularities and rectifying them promptly to maintain the accuracy of the company's financial records.
Moreover, the role will play a crucial role in external reporting. You will prepare detailed financial statements and other reports that are presented to stakeholders, including investors, regulatory bodies, and the public. Through your expertise in technical accounting, balance sheet management, and external communication, you will uphold the financial credibility of Dunelm, ensuring stakeholders have confidence in the financial information presented.

What you'll be doing
* Leading and advising on all new technical accounting updates and initiatives.
* Ensuring accurate and relevant recording of period-end transactions, providing clear and appropriate supporting schedules.
* Performing periodic balance sheet reconciliations on a variety of accounts and presenting these at balance sheet review meetings.
* Ensuring a robust methodology is applied to key accounting estimates, for example dilapidations.
* Dealing with half year and year end audit queries.
* Developing strong working relationships with a wide range of areas across the business to understand processes and identify improvements.
* Driving improvements in current processes to increase efficiency, accuracy. and level of control.
* Understanding other activities within the Financial Accounting team and provide cover for other team members as required.
* Develop and deploy new methodologies for accounting estimates as the business changes, leveraging new technologies and data science approaches as relevant.
What we'll look for in you
* ACA / ACCA qualified
* Proven experience in financial reporting and analysis, with a strong understanding of GAAP and financial regulations applicable to publicly listed companies.
* Exceptional attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to accuracy.
* Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and trends, using a range of tools including Excel, SQL, Alteryx and equivalents.
* Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex financial information in a clear and understandable manner – both in person and via written reports.
* A high degree of honesty, integrity, and reliability, with a steadfast commitment to upholding ethical standards.
* Strong technical accounting knowledge as well as proactive approach to maintaining and seeking further knowledge.
* Proven ability to work to deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
