About Us
East Staffordshire Borough Council takes its role as Principle Litter Authority seriously and the Street Cleaning team is proud of their achievements in keeping the highways, footpaths and open spaces of the Borough clean and tidy.
The team uses a variety of techniques to tackle the problems associated with litter, detritus, dog fouling, graffiti and weed killing, including both mechanical and manual sweeping.
If you are a professional HGV driver holding a Class C Licence, why not join us as a Street Cleaning driver.
We have reviewed our pay structure and are now able to offer an enhanced salary package to candidates of the right calibre. The Council offers a generous annual leave entitlement, a local government pension scheme and regularised hours. Hours of work are normally Monday to Friday. There is a requirement to work on public and Bank Holidays and occasionally at weekends to ensure the provision of an efficient and effective service.
The Role
The role involves the driving of allocated street cleaning vehicles for the purpose of the Street Cleaning Service. These vehicles range from 3.5 tonne up to 26 tonne classification, including a 12 tonne lorry mounted crane used to collect fly tipping and 15 tonne road sweepers.
You will drive and be responsible for your allocated vehicle, including its security, and you will control and supervise the staff that are with you. Prior to leaving the depot, you will be responsible for checking that the vehicle is roadworthy by undertaking a Daily Vehicle Maintenance Check and for reporting any defects to the Supervisor in accordance with Council procedure.
The use of an in-cab device to check workflow demands and to record cleanliness levels is also required.
Key Requirements
You must hold a HGV Class C licence and have previous HGV driving experience. You should also have a sound understanding of the health and safety implications of driving large road sweepers, combined with excellent customer care and communication skills. Ideally, you’ll have previous experience within the waste industry, but if not, full training will be given.
Additional Information
On occasion, you will be required to support the waste collection team to cover periods of absence. This will require you to drive refuse collection vehicles. There is also a requirement to work overtime on Public and Bank Holidays and some weekends to ensure the provision of an efficient and effective public service.
