Rated CQC Outstanding Aurora Orchard Manor are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Skills Tutor for our young people on a full time basis.
Set within acres, Orchard Manor offers a supportive living and learning environment for young adults with severe and profound learning difficulties and complex health needs. With specialist facilities and a focus on promoting independence, we support each of our young people through the transition from education into adulthood.
The Role:
The Skills Tutor will provide specialised educational support to young adults with severe and profound communication difficulties associated with conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, brain injury, and degenerative disorders. The tutor will develop and implement individualised learning plans to enhance communication skills, promote independence, and improve the young people’s overall quality of life.
Key Duties:
1. Ensure each individual has a personalised development & transition plan that meets their needs, aspirations and agreed outcomes.
2. Deliver one-on-one and small group instruction, using a variety of communication methods, including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.
3. Work closely with Speech and Language therapists, Occupational therapists, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
4. Conduct regular reviews and evaluations to ensure the effectiveness of the learning plans.
5. Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify individual communication needs and abilities.
6. To work effectively with people that may display challenging behaviour, ensuring the safety of the person, yourself and others. To comply with instructions and advice received through training and from behaviour plans to support people with complex communication and behaviour.
Skills and Qualifications
Skills & Qualifications:
7. Teaching or training qualifications – Level 3 or equivalent in Health or Social Care.
8. Minimum 2 years’ experience in relevant field.
9. Working with young adults with complex physical and learning difficulties in a young adult education setting.
10. Experience of keeping written & electronic records.
11. Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate learning programmes.
12. Able to work as part of a team
13. Able to direct staff in order to proactively support the young people
14. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
15. Punctual, reliable and organised
16. Positive and proactive
17. Practical and creative problem solver
18. Flexible and adaptable
19. Able to work under pressure
20. Physically fit to meet the requirements of the role
21. IT literate, able to use Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
