JR264: Senior Estimator
Location: London, Paddington
Salary: £80,000 - £85,000 Per Annum + £6,325 Car Allowance
Overview:
First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Senior Estimator on behalf of one of our clients. The role involves the preparation of detailed and accurate pricing for tenders. Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Agree methodologies and outputs for key activities with Planner and, where appropriate, the Bid Manager and Design Manager.
2. Provide advice to Bid Manager/ Design Manager on the most competitive design options.
3. Produce competitive price using methodologies and outputs to suit conditions relevant to the scheme.
4. Advise Bid Manager on the sufficiency of Client bill of quantity/ activity schedule and arrange for full quantity take off or checking as required.
5. Prepare price estimates for tenders or budget pricing comprising the following aspects:
1. Labour: Develop local rates/ build up rates for self-delivered items and ensure Working Rule Agreement (and any other specific requirements such as London Living Wage) included in labour rates.
2. Prepare scheme specific labour rate calculation where required.
3. Liaise with Planner to reconcile plant resource levels.
6. Materials: Create a comparison sheet for materials considering unit rate, wastage, waiting times, and part loads.
7. Liaise with procurement to determine appropriate selection of suppliers and ensure compliance of supplier quotations.
8. Subcontracts: Liaise with procurement & bid team to select subcontractors, determine sufficiency of quotations, and prepare a comparison sheet detailing additions/deletions from quoted rates.
9. Temporary Works: Agree costs of temporary works with the temporary works coordinator.
10. Preliminaries: Liaise with Planner to determine overall duration of preliminaries.
11. Risk: Contribute to the tender risk/opportunity register.
12. Final Settlement and Submission: Produce top-sheet tender summary and prepare final pricing documentation for tender submission.
13. Handover (for successful bids): Prepare handover pricing document for issue to Project Manager and Commercial Manager.
14. Review (for unsuccessful bids): Coordinate with Bid Manager to review feedback on tender price for future tenders.
Skills & Experience:
1. Sound knowledge of civil engineering and construction techniques.
2. Knowledge of relevant procurement legislation.
3. Commercial awareness of different forms of contract.
4. Sound knowledge of governance and procedural requirements for work winning.
5. Detailed knowledge of estimating software packages.
