The Organisation
Palm Cove Society was established in 2007 to support vulnerable individuals. Since then, we have supported refugees, unaccompanied asylum seekers, victims of domestic violence and survivors of slavery, trafficking and exploitation. Currently, we support victims of domestic violence and provide support through our outreach service and at our accommodation sites to survivors of modern slavery, supporting clients across West and North Yorkshire and the Humber.
As an organisation, we are committed to lifelong learning and all our staff receive regular training in a wide range of topics. We also provide access to an Employment Assistance Programme for all our staff and to wellbeing courses and sessions. The organisation has a structured progression path for staff who wish to develop further.
Job / Role Summary
* The post holder will provide protection and minimum support across designated Palm Cove Society site(s).
* They will be responsible for providing security across the site for residents and external visitors along with the buildings and contents of the organisation.
* The post holder must balance the role of providing security with maintaining the high level of care that PCS provides to its residents. The post holder will also assist clients if needed with minimum care needs, (for example calling them a taxi).
* The post holder will have good verbal and written communications skills and be able to keep accurate records of events that occur while being supported by telephone by Senior Staff.
* Most importantly, this person will have good verbal communications skills that allow them to diffuse any difficult or escalating situation.
Responsibilities
* Meet and greet new clients that arrive at the site out of hours and ensure they are supplied with required provisions.
* Identify hazards and risks within the site as part of their routine observations.
* Work well with and understand the needs of our external partners, such as Police or Paramedics.
* Understand and use de-escalation techniques to diffuse or minimise a situation.
* Be able to communicate effectively with the senior on-call staff.
* To work independently and ensure their own safety above all others.
* Must understand the need for confidentiality and not sharing information with anyone outside the organisation in line with GDPR legislation.
Working Environment
It is a requirement that the post holder can work independently in an accommodation setting. The post holder must also be willing and able to travel to all PCS Sites as and when required.
Person Specification
Education
* Fluent verbal and written command of the English language.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
* Experience of security or concierge work.
* Experience of working with vulnerable persons.
* SIA licence.
* An understanding of the difficulties experienced by vulnerable individuals.
* Knowledge and understanding of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Human Rights.
* Ability to deescalate situations using effective verbal communication.
* Has own transport and is able to work across various sites if needed.
Desirable
* Technical understanding of operating CCTV systems.

Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)
The post holder will be working with vulnerable men, women and children and will therefore be required to undergo a basic disclosure & barring service (DBS) check in order to ensure the safety of all clients, service users and staff. If at any time, an employee is convicted or charged with a crime or offence which could affect the safety of the clients and organisation, then Palm Cove Society is within its rights to ask for full disclose regarding such issues. If an applicant knows or suspects that their DBS will contain records of any type, this must be disclosed at the interview stage.

As such a breach of confidentiality will be taken seriously and actioned appropriately by Senior Management. All staff must adhere to strict rules and procedures to ensure that confidentiality of client information is maintained at all times.
