HEAD OF ACCOUNTING

The successful individual will be based three days a week from the business UK head office in the Birmingham area (two days -hybrid working) – for a market leading brand with a global reach. They require a financial professional who has a track record of improving business performance by optimising business procedures and processes whilst upskilling the wider finance and operational teams.
It is of paramount importance that you can quickly understand the workings of a distribution business and the SOX controls framework within. With the autonomy that this role comes with you can progress with establishing best practice throughout the whole finance team.
You’ll have developed robust business processes skills to include rolling out the training for the direct team on optimisation, commercial improvements, and ensuring internal control frameworks. To be successful in this position you will have had financial management experience in different areas of a multi-national business and should enjoy applying your wide range of departmental and overall business performance improvement skills.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Providing leadership in a Head of Accounting capacity whilst providing direction on accounting policy.
* Work strategically with team managers to implement business holistic process improvements. With the team at the forefront, you will be tasked with top level KPIs setting and drive operational efficiencies across the team.
* Strategic relationship-building experience with internal and external stakeholders.
* You will play an integral part of the team from supporting the tax and treasury functions with all manner of improvements to include the complexities. For example, the multi-currency treasury functions.
* Improving the real time cash reporting position for all stakeholders of the business and producing timely budget and forecasting reports.
* Proving insight to the audit committee, managing relationships with external auditors, and managing all processes and departmental reporting. Collaborating across functions with the ultimate objective of delivering operational excellence.
* Ensure Sarbanes Oxley compliance across the whole finance and wider business and their team’s activities, coupled with a focus on SEC filing deadlines.
* Support all managers to ensure substantial automation improvements, support items such as query Management and customer communication, more efficiently.
* Lead the new initiatives around purchasing, project managing the rollout across the business increasing the accuracy and details of the invoice.
To be successful in this position your experience will include:
* A Finance Professional, ideally who has demonstrated a progressive career to date in a multi disciplined leadership position. You will be well regarded for your attention to detail skills, transactional and importantly operational strategic mindset.
* Extensive experience of supporting ERP roll outs and upgrades to satisfy the finance team requirements.
* Able to improve all ledger functions to include accurate purchase ledger and establishing all transactional reporting in line with the system.
* Holding workshops with the rest of the business to ensure cross functional commercials and business partnering is a success.
* You will have experience of implementing financial controls to include that processes are reviewed and SOX compliant.
* Knowledge of SAP would be ideal.
