Engineering Technician – Baggage

Are you our next Engineering Technician – Baggage? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering department.
The Engineering team delivers what matters. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure, including the electricity that powers the airport, giant plant rooms that heat and cool the airport, and specialist equipment on the airfield.
What is the role?
To conduct planned and reactive maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment comprising the baggage systems at Gatwick Airport, ensuring high standards and maximum operational uptime. This shift-based position includes night and weekend work.
This role supports Baggage operations, with key assets such as complex conveyor systems, sortation machines, carousels, scanners, PLCs, and IT-based control systems.
What will you do?
1. Undertake planned preventative and corrective maintenance, considering asset performance and operational needs.
2. Ensure all engineering and operational records are accurately maintained to meet business, regulatory, and manufacturer standards.
3. Proactively support performance improvement activities and programmes.
4. Take responsibility for safety, including wearing PPE, completing mandatory training, and reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses.
5. Utilize GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office) as required.
6. Develop skills and knowledge to maintain and operate existing and new assets, ensuring they perform at required levels.
7. Undertake role-specific training as needed.
8. Work in passenger-facing areas and back-of-house areas across the airport campus, including check-in zones, baggage halls, communication rooms, and security areas.
9. Collaborate effectively with team members. This role has no direct reports.
Do you have what we're looking for?
* Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic) or equivalent.
* Core skills/bias in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering to at least ONC level (Level 3).
* Technical experience in a maintenance environment.
* Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
* Understanding and proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Ability to carry out system performance improvements.
* Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
* Valid driving licence.
Interview Process
1. 30-minute virtual discussion with the hiring manager.
2. One-hour technical assessment with the Hiring Manager and Engineering Leader.
